Nearly everyone on our team was born and raised in Iowa.
Our experience includes banking, finance, mergers and acquisitions, and most of us were previously or are currently business owners in Iowa. So we know the issues that face business owners and the challenges they face with the succession of their business.

Russ has been involved in management or ownership of various businesses for over 30 years. His experience ranges from automotive and heavy construction equipment dealerships, construction/remodeling, and specialty retail. Most of his time in the automotive dealerships was spent as a Service and Parts Manager for high end product lines. After leaving the car business Russ bought his first specialty retail business in a regional mall. This was an operating business with an owner who was ready to retire. Next he acted as a consultant to help others start a new ventures in retail. Then he started a new specialty retail store and eventually sold it. As an entrepreneur Russ has experienced all aspects of buying, starting, reorganizing, closing and selling businesses. This knowledge will be beneficial to buyers seeking a new opportunity as well as sellers looking for a change. Russ earned his BA in Business Management from William Penn University. He is an active volunteer in his church and many non-profits around the Des Moines area.
Dave was President and owner of Action Warehouse Company located in Des Moines, Iowa for 30 years. Dave is still active but has recently sold a major portion of the business through the efforts and direction of The Business Brokers. Dave was responsible for up to 600,000 Square feet of warehouse space and up to 150 employees. Dave is on the board of directors at Hyperion Field Club and looks forward to every opportunity to bring buyers and sellers together for a realistic, satisfying transaction for all parties involved. Dave attended Southwest Minnesota State majoring in Hotel and Restaurant management and also played 4 years of football and baseball.
David has worked as a Director of Operations for a large Mail Order Company, he was a Partner in an Insurance agency, a Marketing Manager for a large insurance company and CEO of a national manufacturing company. Over the past 35 years David has experiences in all aspects of starting, reorganizing, closing and selling businesses. David earned his BA in Marketing & Management from Drake University and he has graduate studies in Accounting from Drake University. David has volunteered with the Special Olympics for 30 years and currently sits on the Drake Bulldog Club Board and Executive Committee, has also volunteered for the American Heart Association and other non-profit organizations.
Roger has been involved in various aspects of the banking industry for over 40 years with over 30 years being involved with various aspects of bank management.
Roger is very familiar with rural Iowa having spent much of his career working in and with rural Iowa banks, businesses and farmers. He earned his BS from Iowa State University and is a graduate of the Graduate School of Banking at Madison, Wisconsin. He is an active volunteer in his church serving on the finance committee and the treasurer of his Lions Club.
Al has over 20 years of experience leading successful organizations. For nearly 10 years Al served as CEO of Wildwood Hills Ranch, prior to that he served as Director of Sports and Development for the Des Moines Area Sports Commission and as Director of External Affairs for the Drake Athletic Department. Al also has significant experience in banking management and business development.
Kelly Lorenzen is a native Iowan who has been brokering performance horses in the equestrian industry for nearly 20 years. She also has experience in real estate and the farming community. Kelly has spent her career building relationships across multiple industries. She has a passion for putting deals together and serving others.
Dan completed a 33 year career in public education in 2013. During that time he served as a teacher, coach and administrator at districts in eastern Nebraska and Iowa. Most recently, he was the Principal at Urbandale Middle School from 1997-2013. In 2008, Dan was named the School Administrators of Iowa Principal of the Year. In his final three years of service to the Urbandale Schools he helped to direct a $12.5 M renovation and construction project at UMS. Upon retirement from the Urbandale Schools, Dan started his own consulting business working primarily with Shive-Hattery Architecture and Engineering on K-12 building projects and assisting with Shive’s affiliation with the Waukee School’s APEX program. Dan has served on several community boards and service organizations. He is currently coordinating the Brad Peyton Memorial Golf Tournament for the Urbandale Education Foundation which has raised over $100,000 for scholarships and classroom grants for the Urbandale Schools and its students.
John brings over 35 years of Executive Level selling experience to The Business Brokers, Inc. in the banking, advertising and performance marketing business sectors.
He recently retired after a 29-year career from ITA Group, where he delivered over $135 million in annual revenue to the company while consistently achieving the company’s annual President’s Club award. John’s consultative selling role focused primarily on Fortune 500 Companies with an emphasis in the insurance and telecommunications sectors.
John has been equally passionate about service to his community. He served on the Urbandale City Council for a total of 14 years and has held numerous board positions in the non-profit sector, including Children & Families of Iowa, Endow Urbandale Foundation and the Urbandale Education Foundation.
John and his wife, Kathy, have resided in the Des Moines area for over 35 years. They have 3 adult children, one grandson and are currently members of Lutheran Church of Hope.
Landon has a unique mix of small-town Iowa and global experiences that encompass agriculture, consumer product goods, hospitality and manufacturing industries. Growing up in Northwest Iowa he has a strong agriculture background in grain and livestock. He is a degreed professional with a BSBA from Drake University (Double Major in International Business and Management) as well as a professional designation of AA from the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandise (FIDM) in Merchandise Management.
Landon has nine years of experience in professional services consulting and eight years in sales and business development that encompasses Direct to Consumer (DTC) and Business to Business (B2B) models in both the domestic and global marketspace. He is active in his local church and mentors juniors and seniors at Drake University that are preparing to launch their professional careers.
Mike has worked with business owners his entire career. This includes his time as CEO of a smaller publicly traded manufacturing company working with its dealer organization, as well as his time with the world's largest farm equipment manufacturer and its dealer group. For the last several years, Mike has been actively involved with brokering businesses of all types with both sellers and buyers. Mike is also active in the community and has recently served as the President of the local Rotary Club and has been on the board of numerous church groups. "At the point that a business sale is occurring for Buyers and Sellers, it is generally the most significant event occurring in their lives. It is important that it occurs smoothly and meets the needs of both parties." Mike has an MBA from St. Ambrose University and a BBA from the University of Iowa.
