I joined The Business Brokers, Inc. shortly after the company was founded in 2011. My previous business experience includes management of automotive service departments, a heavy equipment parts department, and specialty retail stores.
My wife and I have purchased a business, started another business, and sold the business. I have also acted as an advisor on other start-up operations. I have personal understanding of the challenges and blessings that come with business ownership.
When working with an owner to list their business, and to find the right buyer to take over the company, I see it as a way of serving God. I have learned that there is a time and place for everything. The sale of a company does not always happen as fast as the seller would like, and a buyer does not always find the right business for them as quickly as they desire. Patience and persistence are needed to find the right buyer and seller for a mutually agreeable business deal.
My role in the sales process is to confidentially market a business so the employees, customers, suppliers and competition do not know the company is for sale. I also provide confidential guidance to buyers that don’t want it known that they are seeking a new opportunity. As a business broker I enjoy the introduction of both parties, discussions that bring about a successful business transaction, and the excitement of each party as they enter the next season of their life.
Dave was President and owner of Action Warehouse Company located in Des Moines, Iowa for 30 years. Dave is still active but has recently sold a major portion of the business through the efforts and direction of The Business Brokers. Dave was responsible for up to 600,000 Square feet of warehouse space and up to 150 employees. Dave is on the board of directors at Hyperion Field Club and looks forward to every opportunity to bring buyers and sellers together for a realistic, satisfying transaction for all parties involved. Dave attended Southwest Minnesota State majoring in Hotel and Restaurant management and also played 4 years of football and baseball.
David has worked as a Director of Operations for a large Mail Order Company, he was a Partner in an Insurance agency, a Marketing Manager for a large insurance company and CEO of a national manufacturing company. Over the past 35 years David has experiences in all aspects of starting, reorganizing, closing and selling businesses. David earned his BA in Marketing & Management from Drake University and he has graduate studies in Accounting from Drake University. David has volunteered with the Special Olympics for 30 years and currently sits on the Drake Bulldog Club Board and Executive Committee, has also volunteered for the American Heart Association and other non-profit organizations.
Roger has been involved in various aspects of the banking industry for over 40 years with over 30 years being involved with various aspects of bank management.
Roger is very familiar with rural Iowa having spent much of his career working in and with rural Iowa banks, businesses and farmers. He earned his BS from Iowa State University and is a graduate of the Graduate School of Banking at Madison, Wisconsin. He is an active volunteer in his church serving on the finance committee and the treasurer of his Lions Club.
Al has over 20 years of experience leading successful organizations. For nearly 10 years Al served as CEO of Wildwood Hills Ranch, prior to that he served as Director of Sports and Development for the Des Moines Area Sports Commission and as Director of External Affairs for the Drake Athletic Department. Al also has significant experience in banking management and business development.
Kelly Lorenzen is a native Iowan who has been brokering performance horses in the equestrian industry for nearly 20 years. She also has experience in real estate and the farming community. Kelly has spent her career building relationships across multiple industries. She has a passion for putting deals together and serving others.
Dan completed a 33 year career in public education in 2013. During that time he served as a teacher, coach and administrator at districts in eastern Nebraska and Iowa. Most recently, he was the Principal at Urbandale Middle School from 1997-2013. In 2008, Dan was named the School Administrators of Iowa Principal of the Year. In his final three years of service to the Urbandale Schools he helped to direct a $12.5 M renovation and construction project at UMS. Upon retirement from the Urbandale Schools, Dan started his own consulting business working primarily with Shive-Hattery Architecture and Engineering on K-12 building projects and assisting with Shive’s affiliation with the Waukee School’s APEX program. Dan has served on several community boards and service organizations. He is currently coordinating the Brad Peyton Memorial Golf Tournament for the Urbandale Education Foundation which has raised over $100,000 for scholarships and classroom grants for the Urbandale Schools and its students.
Landon has a unique mix of small-town Iowa and global experiences that encompass agriculture, consumer product goods, hospitality and manufacturing industries. Growing up in Northwest Iowa he has a strong agriculture background in grain and livestock. He is a degreed professional with a BSBA from Drake University (Double Major in International Business and Management) as well as a professional designation of AA from the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandise (FIDM) in Merchandise Management.
Landon has nine years of experience in professional services consulting and eight years in sales and business development that encompasses Direct to Consumer (DTC) and Business to Business (B2B) models in both the domestic and global marketspace. He is active in his local church and mentors juniors and seniors at Drake University that are preparing to launch their professional careers.
Bob was a involved as an Educator for over 30 years. He received his BA in Education and Business from Simpson College where he is a member of the distinguished ‘S-Club’ for success in Business and Athletics. Bob received his Master’s Degree in Administration from Drake University.
Bob also spent over 30 years as a successful College and High School Basketball Coach achieving numerous honors at the Conference, District, State, and National level.
He and his wife, Bridget are Co-Owners of a small business in Central Iowa.
Bob has a strong passion for Business and Real Estate. He received training and certification as an ‘Accredited Business Intermediary’ through the American Business Brokers Association.
